Let us introduce you to another dynamic woman and unconditional creative mind behind the brand, Vanessa Geroulanos!
Please tell Cemeli followers a bit more about yourself and how your brand came about?
After graduating from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in the U.S.A. with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and Apparel Design and from UAL’s Central St. Martins in London, in Advanced Fashion Design, I started a fascinating fashion design journey that lasted fifteen years as a Head Designer for major U.S. and international apparel firms.
The time ripened for me to express my own point of view on art and design and so I created VANILE ON THE ROCK (V0R) a unique spirited jewelry and fashion accessories collection. I wanted to design jewelry that is luxurious, versatile, timeless, yet affordable. It expresses positive energy, extraordinary sense of style and balanced aesthetics. My jewelry is ideally suited for confident women looking for that different wearable piece of art that will complete their style.
My work is mostly based on creating small “sculptures” that can be worn. Hard metals are transformed to look soft and fluid, yet strong and confident. Nature is one of my deepest inspirations, organic shapes of natural precious and semi-precious stones, as well as their natural colors and the luminosity they exude. Different metals either polished or antiqued also play a dominant role in creating each unique jewelry collection. It is translated through an abstract point of view. I am an abstract modernist at heart. I have been brought up in multicultural environments and experienced living in very diverse culturally countries which is reflected and is present in my art. I travel extensively all over the world to study nature and culture for continuous inspiration.
My jewelry has been chosen to be featured in leading fashion magazines such as VOGUE ITALIA and influential fashion bloggers sites. I am a member of A Jewel Made In Greece (AJMIG) and have been exhibiting my work at the Museum of Art and Design (MAD) in NYC while it has been sold successfully in Art Galleries and high end boutiques worldwide. Awards nominated actress Geneva Carr prefers to wear V0R on the Red Carpet fanatically!
Sustainability and responsible sourcing are a strong priority, nowadays, what steps do you think that the world of fashion need to take to become more sustainable?
As nature is my main provider of inspiration and “joie de vie”, I make sure that all the materials I use in my collections are natural minerals and metals, hence recyclable and reusable.
What has been the most surprising thing that you have learnt about running your own business?
Running my own business has been one of the biggest challenges I have faced professionally and the greatest reward has been the freedom to express and design with limitless creativity.
As an artisan / designer what is your key philosophy you wish to communicate?
"Simplicity plus Subtlety equals Perfection!” Always look for the invisible signs of perfection!
How would you describe your ideal customer?
As I do not believe in the “ideal customer” because I do not like to categorise style, I have noticed a few similar characteristics in women who do prefer to wear my designs. V0R women are confident in wearing jewellery that is different, timeless and not wearing something “just to fit in” by following a momentary fashion trend. V0R women have a strong personal style, a notion and a point of view on art and wearable art. They are confident and stylish at the same time.
How do you feel about at the online Cemeli boutique?
I am delighted to work with women who have a vision and preform successfully in what they chose to work on. CEMELI is definitely a site where my collection will be honourably presented.
